- STEM (engineers, cybersecurity, etc.)
- Trades (carpenters, plumbers, mechanics, etc.)
- French language proficiency
- New categories in 2026: physicians, transport trades, researchers/senior managers (minimum 1 year of experience required)
The Express Entry process
Express Entry operates on a profile system with regular invitation rounds.
Step 1 — Assess skills, language & ECA
Take a language test (IELTS/CELPIP or TEF/TCF) and complete an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) if you studied outside Canada.
Step 2 — Create your Express Entry profile
Complete your profile online; the system calculates your CRS score and ranks you within the candidate pool.
Step 3 — Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
When your score meets the cut-off for a draw (general or category-based), you receive an ITA.
Step 4 — Submit your PR application & landing
Submit a complete permanent residence application; once approved, the whole family receives PR and enters Canada.

Express Entry costs include: language test fees, the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) fee, the application and Right of Permanent Residence fees to IRCC, medical exams, criminal record checks, and service fees.
