Germany opened its doors to skilled workers from 2024 with a new skilled immigration law. The two pillars are the Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card — enter Germany to seek work under a points system) and the skilled work visa (§18a/§18b) after qualification recognition (Anerkennung). The EU Blue Card is for those with a university degree and a salary meeting the threshold.

What is the Chancenkarte?
The Chancenkarte (opportunity card) lets you enter Germany for up to 12 months to look for work, assessed under a points system (qualifications, experience, age, language, ties to Germany). Use the tool above to estimate your score.
Do I need to know German?
Most pathways require German at a certain level (usually A2–B1 depending on the category and occupation). Some positions in the IT/English-speaking field can be more flexible. Your advisor will advise on the language level you need to reach.
What is qualification recognition (Anerkennung), and is it mandatory?
Anerkennung is the procedure for recognising your qualification/occupation as equivalent to German standards, usually mandatory for regulated professions (healthcare, engineering, etc.). It is a crucial step for working in your profession and qualifying for a skilled worker visa.
Does Germany have an investment-for-immigration program?
Germany has no “golden visa” of the buy-your-residence kind. There is a residence category for the self-employed (§21), but it requires a viable business plan and economic benefit, not “pay-for-a-card”.
